Zsolt Guylay

Nominee: Ivan Lawler

Country: Hungary

Year: Mid 80s-Mid 90s

Olympic Medals:
Gold - 2
Silver - 2
Bronze -

World Medals:
Gold - 6
Silver - 4
Bronze - 4

Apart from the medal tally which speaks for itself, what separated Guylay from most was his belief in his abilities even in the face of the evidence on occasion. In 1992 he only just scraped into the final in Barcelona as the fastest loser. Once there he very nearly took gold, just missing out to the Finn. It is this innate self belief that separates true fighters from other talented athletes and why I believe he was one of the best.
